Voter turnout threshold has been reached in Chisinau

Until 18.30 hrs, 29% of the total numbers of registered voters took part in elections, which means that the elections will not be invalidated on grounds of absenteeism. As usual, the most active voters were the suburban residents, who participated in the elections in a proportion of about 42%. In the city, the voters in Centru district showed a 28% participation rate, while in Buiucani and Ciocana – 27% each, in Botanica – 26.5%, and in Rascani – 25.6%. The voter turnout is now lower than in the 2003 elections, when about 38% of the registered voters had voted by this time, but higher compared with the elections held on July 10, 2005, when approximately 22% had voted until 18.30.
