About 206,000 voters or 7.35% of the total number of electors cast their ballots in the presidential elections by 10am. In the municipality of Chisinau, the voter turnout was of about 6% or approximately 42,000 voters, IPN reports.
The men were slightly more active in the morning, the ratio of men to women among those who voted at national level being 50.11%:49.89%.
43.5% were voters aged between 56 and 70, 24.18% - between 41 and 55, 15.67% - between 26 and 40, 12.15% - 71 years and up, 4.45% - between 18 and 25.
Campaigning today is banned. It is not allowed carrying out or covering activities that are electoral in character. The candidates cannot take part ion TV and radio programs.
The polls are open until 9pm. A minimum voter turnout of one third of the voters put on the register of voters is needed for the elections to be validated.
