Voter turnout in Chisinau reached 59.26%

Over 985,000 Moldovans, or 53.74% of the total eligible voters, participated in the Sunday's local elections. In Chisinau, the turnout was 59.26%, Info-Prim Neo learned from the Central Election Commission. According to early data, which was presented at 10:00pm, participation in Chisinau was by 4% higher than in the first round of the mayoral elections on June 5. In Buiucani district, the turnout was 60.7%, in Centru 59.7%, in Riscani 59.7%, in Botanica 59.2% and in Ciocana 58.3%. In the suburbs, participation was 60.7%. Some electoral bureaus are experiencing power outages due to bad weather, so ballots there are counted by candlelight. In Balti, participation in the runoff elections was 73%, in Basarabeasca 62.69%, in Donduseni 66.91%, in Ocnita 65.29%, in Nisporeni 59%, in Edinet 59%, in Floresti 56%, and in Criuleni 54.5%. On Sunday, June 19, 512 communities held runoff elections to elect their mayors. Also on Sunday, Loganesti village (Hincesti district), held repeat elections for the village council. The preliminary results of the runoff and repeat elections will be presented at a press conference on Monday, June 20, 11:00 am.
