The voter turnout in the runoff presidential election exceeded 10% at 10:00 a.m., the number of electors approaching 289,000. The citizens are more active than in the first round of voting. On October 20, the participation rate of 10% was reached close to 11:00 a.m. According to the Central Election Commission, the process is taking place without major incidents, IPN reports.
"The most active turnout was recorded in Rezina constituency where, according to the data, the participation rate is higher than 12%. About 10% of electors voted in Chisinau," CEC chairwoman Angelica Caraman said at a briefing.
At the 30 polling stations intended for voters from the Transnistrian region, more than 5,000 persons voted. Over 30,000 voters cast their ballots abroad so far, compared to 18,000 by 10:00 a.m. in the first round.
"Voting abroad takes place smoothly and at 09:00 a.m. Moldova time, 32 polling stations in a number of European states – Ireland, the UK and Portugal – opened their doors. The 21 polling stations in the U.S. and Canada are also to be opened," said the CEC head.
Angelica Caraman also said that no major incidents were witnessed, except for some cases of organized transportation of voters, which are documented by the police. For its part, the General Police Inspectorate reported violations in the electoral process – photographing of ballots, political campaigning, unauthorized placing of electoral posters, violation of the right to vote, etc.
