Vote recount reconfirms official results of elections

Recounting ballots has reconfirmed the official results of the April 5 elections. The Central Election Commission (CEC) announced the results of the April 15th vote recount on April 21, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to CEC secretary Iurie Ciocan, as the votes were recounted, they found 412 more votes for the PCRM, 67 – for the PL, 181 – for the PLDM and 45 – for the AMN. Most of those ballots were found among the ballots previously declared invalid. But the difference will not change the situation. After the recount, the number of the ballots gained by those 4 parties to enter the parliament practically coincides with the results announced after the elections. Only the total score registered by the Liberal Party (PL) fell with 0.01. Thus, the Communists Party (PCRM) got 49.48% of the voters' ballots, the PL – 13.13%, the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) – 12.43% and Our Moldova Alliance – 9.77%. So the CEC establishes that the PCRM will have 60 seats in the new 101-seat parliament, the PL and the PLDM will have by 15 seats and AMN -- 11. The mandates are to be validated by the Constitutional Court. After the recount, the CEC repeated adopted the decision on the turnout. The CEC declared the elections as valid with a turnout of 57.54%, what's more than half of the number of the voters registered on the electoral lists. The CEC made verifications after media reports about people having voted with the same ID cards and found they were not true. The CEC has neither found evidence that someone else voted instead of deceased people. The considerable growth of the number of voters on the electoral lists compared with the previous elections is explained by the CEC by the fact that the number of people turning 18 grew almost 300,000 since march 2005. The CEC report will be sent to the Constitutional Court, which is to say its word about the validity of the April 5 vote. The recount was ordered by the Constitutional Court following a request by the Communists Party. The opposition did not attend the recount, considering only verifying the electoral lists can unveil rigging the elections.
