Ex-President of Moldova Vladimir Voronin, the leader of the Communists Party, could be deprived of parliamentary immunity at the request of the Prosecutor General's Office (PG). According to prosecutors, Vladimir Voronin is suspected of misconduct while holding office as head of state that resulted in the death of one person during the April 7, 2009 events, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Acting President Mihai Ghimpu informed the MPs about the PG's request in Thursday's sitting of the legislative body. He said the prosecutors on September 18 started to investigate Vladimir Voronin over the death of a person during the April 2009 events and over the devastation of the Parliament Building and the Presidential Office.
The PG's request will be examined by the parliamentary commission for appointments and immunities. According to Mihai Ghimpu, a relevant proposal will be discussed in Parliament tomorrow. Another issue included in Friday's agenda is the lifting of the immunity of Communist MP Anatolie Popusoi for the wrongdoings committed while heading the state-run agency “Moldsilva”.
