The failure in mounting a coup made those who control the prosecutor general to change the status of Vladimir Voronin from witness into suspect, it is said in the speech of the Communist leader addressed to the parliamentary legal commission for appointments and immunities.
The speech in printed form was published by the Communists Party's press service during the commission's meeting that was held behind closed doors, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In his speech, Vladimir Voronin says he had to deal with several rather dramatic events, including the attack on the Ministry of the Interior of 1989, the confrontation with the Opposition in 2002 and the events of April 7, 2009.
He stressed that in the March 23 meeting of the parliamentary commission for investigating the April 7, 2009 events he transmitted seven questions that remained unanswered. “On the one hand, you permanently accuse the police of disproportionally using the force and simultaneously accuse me of misconduct, of not convoking the Supreme Security Council and of not taking measures to restore order. You accuse me of halting the mobile telephony and then say that the head of state ordered restoring order at any cost. These are absurd and controversial accusations,” the leader of the PCRM said.
The former head of state urged the representatives of the Prosecutor General's Office to admit who promised them money if they file applications, asking lifting his parliamentary immunity. “Today, we came closer to establishing who staged the April 7, 2009 events. These are those who ordered that the Prosecutor General's Office make this incompetent request. Who are these persons? What posts did they held or continue to hold? The Moldovan society knows that it is you that must give an answer to this question,” Voronin says in his speech.
Vladimir Voronin is investigated for misconduct while holding office as head of state, which resulted in the death of one person during the April 7, 2009 events, the devastation of the Parliament Building and the Presidential Office and other serious consequences.
If the legal commission for appointments and immunities rules the lifting of the parliamentary immunity of the two MPs is justified, the issue will be put to the vote in Parliament.
