President Vladimir Voronin did not give up the idea of meeting with the Transnistrian leader Igor Smirnov, Info-Prim Neo reports. “We plan this meeting because without it we cannot take the next step in the process of settling the Transnistrian dispute,” Vladimir Voronin told the reporters on October 21. According to the president, the next step is a trilateral Vladimir Voronin - Igor Smirnov - Russia’s President Dmitry Medvedev meeting. If agreements are reached at the trilateral meeting, the next step will be the resumption of the talks in the 5+2 format. “This is what we need Smirnov for. He must hear, acknowledge … But I also want what to hear what Medvedev will tell him in my presence. I am very curious,” Vladimir Voronin said. The talks over the organization of a meeting between Vladimir Voronin and Igor Smirnov failed several times. The sides could not agree on the place and date of the meeting.
