“The problem of the Transnistrian speaker or how they call him there does not play an important role in our relations with Transnistria,” the outgoing President of Moldova Vladimir Voronin said at a news conference on July 15, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Shevchuk is a weak person whose character is not appropriate for the post that he had held and for the Transnistrian regime. The Smirnovists (the supporters of the Transnistrian leader Igor Smirnov – e.n.) ate him,” Voronin said. The PCRM leader also said that the resignation of the former head of the Transnistrian Supreme Soviet is an internal problem of the region. “They eat each other in that pot,” Vladimir Voronin said. The demilitarization of the Moldovan territory remains a priority for the PCRM. The presence of foreign military troops in a neutral country is unacceptable, Vladimir Voronin stressed. Evgheni Shevchuk resigned on July 8, invoking that he does not accept the new version of the Constitution of the region proposed by the Transnistrian leader Igor Smirnov. “This document will lead to the destruction of the state. They try to empower a single person who will decide on practically all the elective posts,” Shevchuk said.
