Vladimir Voronin had both praise and criticism for his fellow party members at the Communist Party's Seventh Congress on June 9. “For three years we haven't been able to come back to power. We need to review our Party's tactics and strategy”, stated the Communist leader. Voronin remarked the recent tensions within the party around the discussions about the need for internal reform and a name change. “We all understood that this could have destroyed the Party”. Vladimir Voronin criticized the party's activists for inaction, indifference and lack of initiative, noting that the party was shrinking as its activists were “good only at handing out leaflets” and less at promoting the party. “We must concentrate and consolidate our efforts. We need to find new ways to promote the Party”, urged Vladimir Voronin, promising himself to initiate legislative proposals “for the welfare of the people” and promote democratic socialism. Vladimir Voronin went on to recall the achievements of his party during eight years in power. “During our government salaries and pensions rose, prices doped, demography improved, millions were allocated to education and health care”, declared the Communist leader. Concerning the current state of affairs, Voronin harshly criticized the government. “Moldova has never been in such a deep crisis as it is now, under the Alliance for European Integration. The crime rate and the level of corruption have surged. Schools and kindergartens are being closed and the level of poverty increased. Thousands of people are migrating to find a better place to live. The pensioners, the public sector employees, the students and the youth are without any support”, declared Vladimir Voronin. The Seventh Communist Party Congress, the first since 2008, brought together more than 450 delegates from across the country.
