Communist leader Vladimir Voronin claims the ruling Alliance intends to scrap the so-called 'accompanying sheets' so that it becomes easier for them to falsify the next elections, Info-Prim Neo reports. Vladimir Voronin told a Wednesday news conference that the amendments are nothing but “criminal schemes”. “It was due to rigging that the events of April 2009 took place. It was due to rigging that Urechean was elected and re-elected as Chisinau Mayor. They always stole votes from us using falsifications, in every election”, declared Voronin. In late July Parliament approved upon first reading a set of amendments replacing the existing ID cards with smaller ones and scrapping the so-called accompanying sheet, a strip of paper that comes as an attachment to the ID cards and which contains information on the holder's domicile, marital status and other. It was also used to affix stamps during elections to prevent the holder from voting more than once. The Alliance says the sheet will become unnecessary with the advent of the national electronic voter register.
