Vladimir Voronin goes to beg Russia for economic support in the full swing of the electoral campaign. This is how the political analyst Igor Botan commented for Info-Prim Neo Voronin's visit to Moscow planned on June 22. Moldova's acting president will be accompanied in his trip by minister for economy and commerce Igor Dodon, finance minister Mariana Durlesteanu. A governmental decision of June 17 does not mention the goal of the visit, neither the amount of money needed for the trip. “In case we don't have information about the goal of the trip, we can't help guessing. But the suppositions are made on the basis of the Communists Party's (PCRM) conduct during the previous run-up, when Moldova was visited by Russia's minister for economy, Yelvira Nabiullina. Then Moldova was promised economic support, in case of hardships. The IMF conditioned granting financial support to Moldova “after solving the political problems,” says the expert. “In this case, the ruling party will show the citizens who is the real supporter of Moldova,” Igor Botan added. The analyst says people who opposed setting up the organization “Russia's friends in Moldova” actually go to Moscow. “These things are delicate. In the previous electoral campaign, Voronin yielded enormously to Russia, signing the Barvikha statement (March 2009), thus practically ceding the solution of the Transnistrian conflict,” the analyst considers. Igor Botan says they could bargain another thing during the June 22 visit. “Now they possible can yield in the energy sector. We can guess they will cede in Gazprom's favor,” the expert opines. Neither the Moldovan Foreign Ministry, nor the Presidency have offered details about the president's visit to Moscow.
