“I'm waiting for this wedding to end,” the Communist leader Vladimir Voronin said before the meeting of the legal commission for appointments and immunities. The former head of state came to the meeting in good mood and said he is sorry that the commission meets behind closed doors and the press will not have access, Info-Prim Neo reports. The commission is to decide if there are reasons to lift the parliamentary immunity of Communist MPs Vladimir Voronin and Anatolie Popusoi, at the request of the Prosecutor General's Office. Anatolie Popusoi, who is suspected of fraudulently managing about 80 million lei and facilitating the illegal sale of wood to the former head of state Vladimir Voronin, said he committed no violations while heading the state-run agency “Moldsilva”. According to Popusoi, the lease of wood brings money into the budget and Moldova's forest fund. He said about 11 million lei is earned from renting out wooded areas to the over 500 companies that took out leases in 1997 – 2009 and the 200 companies that got leases after 2009. Vladimir Voronin is investigated for misconduct while holding office as head of state, which resulted in the death of one person during the April 7, 2009 events, the devastation of the Parliament Building and the Presidential Office and other serious consequences. If the legal commission for appointments and immunities rules the lifting of the parliamentary immunity of the two MPs is justified, the issue will be put to the vote in Parliament. A decision to this effect is taken by 50 votes plus one.
