Voronin assures US Ambassador Communists are ready to vote for Article 78 amendment

“The leaders of the Alliance for European Integration are doing everything to remain in power, even if this means breaking the Constitution”, Communist leader Vladimir Voronin told a meeting with US Ambassador to Moldova Asif Chaudhry, Info-Prim Neo reports. The president of Communists’ Party criticized the AIE leaders’ actions saying they broke all the moral and legal limits. According to Voronin, Moldova is stricken by political, social and economic crises, while the referendum requires additional budget expenses. Vladimir Voronin said the Party of Communists remained willing to vote for AIE’s amendment of article 78 in the Parliament, so that the money allotted for the referendum could be used for social projects. He added that the current crisis wasn’t a constitutional one, but a strictly political one. The US Ambassador said in turn that he followed closely the events in Moldova and hoped the current problems would be overcome in the near future.
