Vladimir Voronin had the largest number of appearances on TV among the Moldovan politicians. In a report presented on Monday, the Electronic Press Association (APEL) said that seven TV channels presented Vladimir Voronin in a favorable light in 306 news items in August. The former president is followed by the former Premier Zinaida Greceanyi with 52 appearances in a positive context, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca ranks third with 44 appearances, followed by the PDM leader Marian Lupu (31 appearances), the former first deputy speaker Igor Dodon (30 appearances), the leader of the PLDM Vlad Filat (22 appearances), the former minister of construction Vladimir Baldovici (20 appearances). The PL leader appeared on TV in a favorable light 18 times, the Communist MP Victor Stepaniuc and the AMN leader Serafim Urecheanu - 17 times both. Most often Vladimir Voronin appeared on the public TV channel Moldova 1, the private channels N4 and NIT. On Moldova 1, Voronin was put in a good light in 60 news stories, the same number of news items in which all the mentioned politicians were presented together. Dorin Chirtoaca appeared most frequently on Eu TV, followed by Vladimir Voronin and Mihai Ghimpu. ProTV and TV7 put mainly Dorin Chirtoaca and Marian Lupu in a favorable light. The representatives of the PCRM appeared in the news stories on the seven TV channels over 425 times, while the representatives of the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) - 132 times. Mihai Ghimpu was presented in a bad light 130 times, followed by Vlad Filat (129), Marian Lupu (123), Serafim Urecheanu (92) and Dorin Chirtoaca. Vladimir Voroni ranks fifth with 63 appearances, while the former Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev – sixth with 33 appearances. Eu TV presented in bad light mainly Marian Lupu, Vasile Tarlev, Serafim Urecheanu, Vlad Filat, Mihai Ghimpu and Vladimir Voronin, in two news items. Moldova 1, N4 and NIT were not critical of the PCRM, only of the leaders of the AEI. ProTV put four representatives of the PCRM (Vladimir Voronin, Ivan Calin, Vladimir Turcan, Grigore Petrenco) and six representatives of the political opposition of the PCRM (Vasile Tarlev, Marian Lupu, Dorin Chirtoacă, Serafim Urecheanu Mihai Petrache and Mihail Formuzal) in a bad light. The report shows that the monitored TV channels in August continued to treat the political players differently. Some of them violated the right to be thoroughly and truthfully informed. ProTV and TV7 were rather impartial, while NIT, Moldova 1, N4 and partly Eu TV were biased towards certain politicians. The report covered the period between July 30 and August 31 and included EuTV, Moldova 1, N4, NIT, Pro TV, TV7 and 2 plus. Prime and TVC 21 were also monitored, but there was presented no information about them.
