Volunteers of the Association “Motivatie” will stage a marathon to assess the accessibility of the infrastructure for people with disabilities. The testing will take place in a number of districts of Chisinau on May 23. The marathon will set off on Independentei St, at the intersection with Hristo Botev St, in Botanica district, IPN reports.

The race will involve 15 volunteers who will form four teams. Each of the teams will include by a wheelchair user who will check the accessibility of buildings.

The organizers aim to sensitize the people and the authorities to the problems faced by the people in wheelchairs. “Each of us is responsible for ensuring an environment adapted for the others ad each of us can be promoter of the idea of an integrant environment,” said project coordinator Ludmila Iachim.

The marathon is thus designed to raise awareness of the need to ensure accessible infrastructure for people with locomotor disabilities, for parents with children in wheelchairs and for elderly people.

From last October, the Association “Motivatie” has implemented the project “Access to Everyone” that is aimed at reducing the discrimination against persons with locomotor disabilities by facilitating or improving physical access to social infrastructure.
