Approximately 700 people came together in Chisinau’s Rascani Park on April 16 to join the cleanup campaign organized by “Come on, Moldova” Project on the National Cleaning Day. They included ordinary people and government officials, Info-Prim Neo reports. Project coordinator Alexei Gorduza said the participants in the event were divided into groups headed by a leader. The volunteers received dungarees, booths, masks, gloves, water and sacks for garbage. The teams that completed the assigned task quicker lent a hand to the other teams. The gathered garbage is loaded onto tractors and taken to waste dumps. Forty tractors were involved in the cleanup campaign in Chisinau. Olga Ciugureanu, leader of a team of volunteers of the State University of Moldova, said she found out about the event through the Internet and decided to mobilize her fellows, friends and relatives. She managed to gather 50 persons. Another participant, Dina Coara, of the National College of Medicine and Pharmaceutics, said that besides doing something useful, the volunteers are able to spend the free time amusingly. Volunteer Valentina Manole said it is good that the people gathered to clean up and give an example, but they should not forget that such work should be done daily, not only on occasions. The cleanup campaign covers the entire country. The team of “Come on, Moldova” Project hopes there will be collected about 10,000 tonnes of garbage during one day.
