Those who want to contribute to saving human lives and what to do a good deed can donate blood on April 10 within an event that will be staged in Chisinau and simultaneously in over 70 countries with the aim of celebrating the Good Deeds Day and of urging the population to show civic spirit.

Contacted by IPN, Svetlana Cebotari, director of the National Blood Transfusion Center, which is one of the organizers of the event, said that any person aged between 18 and 60 and weighing more than 50 kg can become a donor. The donor must also not be overweight and must have a good state of health. Those who suffer from chronic or acute respiratory diseases and who received drug treatment in the recent past cannot donate blood.

Svetlana Cebotari noted that the donation of blood does not cause harm to a healthy person. Moreover, regular donation, once in two months, helps the body to develop a strong immune system. It was established that the regular donors have a perfect state of health.

The persons who want to donate blood are awaited at the National Volunteering Center “KEDEM” that is located at 5 Eugen Doga St between 12 noon and 4pm. The donors must have an identity paper on them.

The event is organized by the Ministry of Health in partnership with the National Blood Transfusion Center and the National Volunteering Center “KEDEM”. The collected blood will be processed, examined and then distributed to medical-sanitary institutions.

According to the Ministry of Health, the needs of blood for transfusion in Moldova are fully satisfied, about 80,000 donations being collected annually. This volume is enough for 130,000 blood transfusions.
