Volume of industrial output is still low as compared to last year

In January-May 2007, the industrial enterprises of all property types produced goods estimated at 9265.22 mln lei in current prices. The index of the industrial production’s volume as compared to January-May 2006 in comparable prices represented 98.4%, while in May as against the same month of 2006, this index represented 118.9%.
According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, the decrease in the industrial output in this period, as compared to January-May 2006, was due to the decline in the production of enterprises specialised in the following: wine production – by 2.5 times (having a 5.4% weight in the industrial production structure, (in January-May 2006 - 13.3%, it caused an 8.0% decrease per industry), distilled spirits production – by 2.1 times, electricity and heating production and distribution – by 7.7%, tools and equipment production - by 10.0%, tobacco production – by 7.3%, bitumen, plaster and cement production – by 3.9%, etc.
At the same time, the industrial output has known an increase (which actually hasn’t fully compensated the production’s decrease in the above-mentioned branches), in the following sectors: stone cutting, shaping and finishing (by 2.2 times); production of medical instruments and equipment, and namely, optical implements (by 1.6 times); production of drugs and pharmaceutical products (by 1.5 times); production of varnish and paint (by 30.9%); production of metal finished products (by 28.1%); mining industry (by 19.7%); production of carpets and mats (by 19,1%); metallurgical industry (by 17.0%); production of paper and cardboard (by 14.4%); furniture manufacturing (by 12.1%); footwear ( by 5.4%), etc.
The volume of production of the enterprises in the food and drink industry in general has decreased by 15.7%. At the same time, an increase has been registered in the production of enterprises in the following spheres: manufacturing of mill products (by 2.2 times); fruit and vegetable processing and preserving (by 37.4%); oil and fat production (by 33.7%); mineral water and cold drinks production (by 31.5%); cocoa, chocolate and confectionary sugar goods production (by 24.8%); meat and meat products making, processing and preserving (by 21.5%); beer production (by 19.6%); dairy products (by 4.4%) etc.
