Many participants in the program „Forum” daily broadcasted by the radio station „Vocea Basarabiei” state they have been visited, contacted or called for interrogation by collaborators of the Infomation and Security Service, by prosecutors and police, in order to provide explanations related to the opinions uttered in that live program, Info-Prim Neo reports, as informed by a communique issued by the station’s founders. According to the release, this proves that the state’s security service and all the law-enforcing organs are used by the ruling regime as political police mobilized with its whole fight arsenal to struggle against uncomfortable media. The authors of the communique warriedly find that in 2008, as in 2002, when radio „Vocea Basarabiei” was banned by the Communist government, as in 2004 or 2006, the Voronin regime demonstrates the same reflexes of non-accepting the opinions freely expressed by citizens at the few independent broadcasters. This is happening on the background when the head of the state and other top dignitaries declare in front of European fora they comform with the standards regulating the functioning of the democratic institute of the press in the state of law. On December 20, 2007, the General Prosecutor’s office started a criminal inquest as to the radio station „Vocea Basarabiei” on reason „it broadcasted messages liable to be qualified as public appeals to overthrow or change, by violence, the constitutional regime or to violate the territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova.” The quoted source asserts the inquest was started immediately after President Voronin had ordered the collaborators of the Information and Security Service to operate a thorough control of the funding sources of opposition parties and independent media.
