Ex-President of Moldova Vladimir Voronin said any discussion on snap parliamentary elections should be put off until the epidemiological situation is fully stabilized. “You are obliged to form and confirm a government with plenipotentiary powers in the nearest future so that this undertakes full responsibility for the alleviation of the consequences of the pandemic,” the leader of the Party of Communists says in a call addressed to the MPs and President Maia Sandu, IPN reports.
“I’m troubled and ashamed of what is happening in our country today. I’m concerned that thousands become infected and dozens die daily in Moldova. In such a situation, the sick people often cannot be hospitalized. Possibilities already started to be looked for to extend the cemeteries. There are not enough coffins for those who died and have to be buried. I’m ashamed of how the ruling class of Moldova behaves in such a dreadful situation,” stated Vladimir Voronin.
According to him, in all the countries affected by the pandemic, the political class combines forces and takes an active part in overcoming this common sorrow by taking care of the people, by taking the necessary measures to save people’s lives. In Moldova, those who are in power are preoccupied with a political bargain for dividing the power and didn’t come together to discuss the created situation and identify solutions to it at least once.
According to Vladimir Voronin, in the current unprecedented difficult and dangerous situation, the political arguments should be brought to an end and all the efforts should be concentrated on saving people’s lives. “In this connection, I want to warn the Constitutional Court that it must refuse to examine the infinite requisitions filed by the President and the MPs to it,” said the Communist leader.
The politician noted the government with plenipotentiary powers that should be invested swiftly must deal with the procurement of the necessity medical preparations and must organize the massive vaccination of the country’s population.
