The day of August 27 is an additional occasion for reminding everyone about Moldova’s statehood, the head of the Party of Communists (PCRM) Vladimir Voronin says in a message disseminated on the occasion of the Independence Day. According to him, the last five years showed that there is only one statehood-supporting force in Moldova – the PCRM.

“A foreign, Romanian identity is imposed on the Moldovan people. The aggressive ruling minority imposes its personal opinion on the majority and Moldova’s statehood is absent from this opinion. The unionists, who are for the union with Romania, the withdrawal from the CIS and the joining of NATO, involve Moldova in a dangerous scenario that represents a confrontation between the United States, the European Union and Russia, where our country plays the role of a sacrifice pawn ,” reads Vladimir Voronin’s message quoted by IPN.

Vladimir Voronin reiterates that according to the Communist Party, the permanent status of neutrality is the only chance for Moldova to avoid the collapse. Only the neutrality can and must represent the basis of Moldova’s home and foreign policy.

The message also says that after the future parliamentary elections, the unionist parties must leave the government because time has come for the party of statehood supporters. “We represent the majority, those who, despite the two decades of Romanian propaganda, are for independence and for keeping the state Moldova, and those who do not accept to play the role of pawns and to be managed from other capitals. We represent the people who believe in independence and hope that we can assert ourselves as a nation and country,” says Vladimir Voronin.

In another communiqué issued by the PCRM, the national public broadcaster “Teleradio-Moldova” is accused of refusing to broadcast live the commemoration event “Beyond silence” that was staged to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Moldova’s liberation from the fascist occupation. The Communists consider that the public broadcaster this way confirmed the fact that its editorial policy depends on the authorities’ unionist policy.
