The former President of Moldova Vladimir Voronin told the EU Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy Štefan Füle, who is in Moldova on a visit, that the administration of Moldova says it is democratic and European, but allows numerous violations of the democratic norms, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the PCRM.
Vladimir Voronin said that among the violations accepted by the government coalition are the intimidation of the inconvenient press and sympathizers of the PCRM, unprecedented intimidation of businesses, adoption of laws that promote their interests, formulation of a unilateral report on the April 7, 2009 events.
The leader of the PCRM spoke about the political crisis, saying the present administration repeatedly ignored the recommendations made by the Venice Commission and delays naming the date when the Parliament will be dissolved and when early legislative elections will take place. “The chairman of the PCRM considers that all these facts show the governors do not intend to deal with the political stalemate as they want to remain in power as long as possible,” it is said in the communiqué.
Vladimir Voronin also said that article 78 of the Constitution should be modified within reasonable terms. He suggested that the EU and other institutions should take part in this process as mediators.
In a news conference held jointly with Prime Minister Vlad Filat, Štefan Füle said he was satisfied with the dialogue he had with Vladimir Voronin. “I liked the way in which Vladimir Voronin answered my questions,” he said, without giving details.
