The National Association of Young Historians of Moldova (ANTIM) sued Communist MP Vladimir Voronin, the leader of the Communists Party, for refusing to tell if he cooperated with secret services. The question in written form was sent to Vladimir Voronin within the Association’s project “Desecretization of the Archive of Moldova’s Security and Information Service” launched in March, Info-Prim Neo reports. Vladimir Voronin was sued for breaking the law on access to information, together with another 63 members of the current Parliament. Initially, the Chisinau Court of Appeals banned bringing Vladimir Voronin to trial, but this decision was quashed by the Supreme Court of Justice on August 4, Lilia Potag, assistant of the campaign’s jurist Alexandru Postica, has told Info-Prim Neo. Early in March, the MPs received letters asking them if they cooperated with the security services. Under the law on the access to information, to which ANTIM makes reference, the persons who possess official information are obliged to make it public on request within 15 workdays of the day when the application for information is submitted. Sixty-three lawmakers did not provide an answer within the required term and ANTIM sued them. ANTIM says the project is a test for the Moldovan political class and society, which shows if they are ready to desecretize the archives of the former totalitarian regime. The lustration campaign is carried out as part of the project “Desecretization of the Archive of Moldova’s Security and Information Service” that is financially supported by Soros-Moldova Foundation.
