Vladimir Voronin laid down the activity priorities of the country’s administration at a meting attended by Speaker Marian Lupu, MPs from the parliamentary group of the Communist Party, Prime Minister Zinaida Greceanyi, members of the Cabinet and presidential advisers. A communiqué from the presidential press service cited by Info-Prim Neo says that the head of state spoke about the importance of successfully finalizing the implementation of the EU-Moldova Action Plan and of initiating talks over a new legal framework of cooperation between Moldova and the EU. Highlighting the existence of real preconditions for solving the Transnistrian dispute, Vladimir Voronin underlined the necessity of developing the dialogue between Chisinau and Tiraspol, including by implementing the confidence building measures between the two sides and resuming the settlement talks in the 5+2 format. Among the objectives regarding the economic-financial activity of the Government, the chief of state mentioned the optimization of the process of carrying out gasification, water supply and road building programs and other projects of strategic importance. The president reiterated the importance of stimulating the land consolidation and mechanization processes in agriculture in order to develop this strategic sector of the national economy and insure the country’s food security. In another connection, the head of state said that the field activities carried out by the Government members are inefficient. He pleaded for the implementation of new mechanisms in the area. He proposed that the members of the Government should to go to the scene for a whole day and at least two times a month and visit not only the district centers, but also the settlements of the territorial administrative units in order to familiarize themselves with the problems faced by the people and engage in their solving. As regards the social sphere, Vladimir Voronin said that the Parliament should hasten the adoption and implementation of the law on social assistance. The law envisages the provision of a new type of social assistance financed from the state budget called ‘social support’, which will be provided to families in need after determining their necessities. The head of state underlined the importance of informatizing the area of social protection and developing the national network of social assistants. The president stressed the necessity of solving the problems related to the provision of specialized primary medical assistance in the country’s settlements, and of informatizing the pharmaceutical sector and the healthcare system in general in 2008.
