The Party of Communists (PCRM) will have a candidate in the local mayoral elections that will be held in Chisinau municipality in 2019, the party’s president Vladimir Voronin stated in the talk show “Important” on TVC21 channel. According to him, the Communists had a candidate for the recent early elections too, but didn’t field this because the mayoralty will last for only a year, IPN reports.
As to the outcome of the early mayoral elections in Chisinau municipality, the Communist leader said the elected mayor will not cope and Andrei Nastase will use the mayoralty only as a trampoline for the parliamentary elections and will not solve the problems of the citizens. As regards the outcome in Balti, Vladimir Voronin stated this represents a protest vote against those who captured the local public administration in the recent past.
He also said that the PCRM will run in the parliamentary elections under electoral lists and in single-member constituencies, but hasn’t yet decided in what constituencies namely. The party is preoccupied with the betrayal of MPs and is trying to find a solution to this problem.
In another development, Vladimir Voronin said he wants very much the Liberals to disappear from the political arena of Moldova. “I want to drown them and will contribute what I can as they are not patriots of the nation of the Republic of Moldova,” he stated, adding that the Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu struggles against statehood and the language.
