Moldova is not ready to integrate into the European Union because it must reach the EU standards first, the leader of the Communist Party (PCRM) Vladimir Voronin said in the program “In Depth” on PRO TV channel, IPN reports.
According to the Communist leader, the European Union is not a bad prospect for Moldova, but the country must be modernized. “Any country, industry must be modernized and we must meet the relevant standards. Moldova is not yet ready to form part of the EU. It may be ready in 100 years,” said Voronin. He noted that in 2006, when he was head of state, Moldova signed an asymmetric trade agreement with the EU, which allowed Moldova to export 10,000 categories of goods to the West, but the EU could not export to Moldova.
Speaking about the relations with Romania, the Communist leader said that Moldova must have good relations with all the countries, without employing such stupid things as nationalism and unionism.
Asked about the electoral forecasts of the Communist Party, Vladimir Voronin expressed his conviction that they will win the elections. But they will not form a coalition with any of the parties even if they will not hold a parliamentary majority. All the left-wing parties, except for the PCRM, form part of a well-thought-out project designed to prevent the Communists from obtaining a parliamentary majority.
Vladimir Voronin also said that he wants to come to power in order to bring the tragic events happening in Moldova to an end. “Immediately after we come to power, we will start to fight the corrupt persons and the bandits,” he stated.
