The outgoing President of Moldova and leader of the Communist Party Vladimir Voronin is sure that the Parliament will soon elect a new head of state, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“How can a country be governed without a president?” Voronin asked, when interviewed by the journalists on Tuesday during a pause in the parliamentary sitting.
He expressed his confidence that the PCRM will find the lacking 61st vote needed to choose the head of state. “It will be found. We are not looking for it. It will come by itself. Those elected by the people will vote.”
The leader of the PCRM stressed that the Opposition MPs should be the most interested not to allow early elections. “They should be interested in electing the head of state as soon as possible. Otherwise, under the Constitution I will continue to act as head of state. It’s great. There is only the post of Prime Minister left and we could close the dictatorship circle,” Vladimir Voronin said. He refused yet to name the candidate of the PCRM for President.
According to Voronin, even if early polls are held the country will not remain without a Government. “The new Government will be formed even if the head of state is not elected. In case of early polls, the first thing to do is to appoint the new Government, because the country must be governed. It is dangerous to leave it in the hands of those that have never been responsible for anything and cannot be responsible. We will form the Government and then issue a decree, announcing early elections.”
Voronin said that the dialogue with the Opposition is being established. “They are all Moldovan people and should have common sense. They entered the Parliament because they were elected and did not come to fulfill their personal needs. They came to do good things for the country. That’s why I think the commons sense will triumph over these political ambitions in the end.”
Asked by the reporters, the head of state refused to comment on the resolution adopted by the European Parliament. “It must not be commented. We should examine it to see what is real and what not…”
