Moldova’s ex-President Vladimir Voronin said the idea of restoring the airport in Mărculești and of building an airport in southern Moldova does not belong to President Igor Dodon or to the Government led by Ion Chicu. According to him, this idea was implanted. Voronin didn’t say who implanted it, but implied that it came from Russia, IPN reports.

“Time will show. Immediately after Dodon returned from Moscow, the Chisinau International Airport changed its owner. Today it was already bought by a Russian magnate. Immediately after returning from Moscow, Prime Minister Ion Chicu left all his activities aside and went to inspect the airports in Balti and in Marculesti. He understood that the idea of building of an airport in Ceadîr Lunga is not stupid, but is even idiotic and oriented himself to the existing airports. For what and for who – we should yet determine,” Vladimir Voronin stated in the program “Important” on TVC 21 channel.

He noted the Chisinau International Airport is a profitable business and the tax of €9 paid by the travellers wasn’t annulled by the previous administration of Avia Invest or the current one. Calculations show the airport could clear all its debts and could start to make a profit. “Who can destroy a profitable business that brings money to the budget? Who except those who received a particular order, when a particular scheme is being applied?” he asked.

On December 23, the press reported that Russian businessman Andrey Goncharenko became the new beneficiary of Komaksavia Airport Invest” Ltd that owns 95% of Avia-Invest – the manager of the Chisinau International Airport – after NR Investment Limited conceded control over the company.
