Former President Vladimir Voronin defended his former party mate Igor Dodon even if the relations with this are difficult, as he said. The leader of the Party of Communists noted that no matter what this did, and the blame is to be proven first, a former head of state cannot be the subject of a show with persons in balaclavas and of televised justice, IPN reports.
Vladimir Voronin said it is not clear why Dodon is accused of treason and what this consisted of. Does it go to his relations with representatives of the Russian administration or with leaders of CIS states? He reminded of the MPs who hold the nationality of Romania, of the joint meetings of the Government of Moldova and Romania and of the public statements about the union of the two states, wondering if these are not elements of treason.
“Igor Dodon is accused of this, but, as far as I remember, he didn’t give such reasons while holding office of President,” stated Vladimir Voronin. According to him, by the actions taken against Igor Dodon, the current government harms the authority of the presidential administration.
Following searches carried out at the home of ex-President Igor Dodon, he and his brother-in-law were detained for 72 hours in a criminal case started over passive corruption, acceptance of financing for the party from a criminal organization, treason and unjust enrichment. The Ciocana Court is today considering the request to remand the former President in custody. The Socialists are protesting in front of the court.
