The leader of the Communists Party of Moldova Vladimir Voronin, during the session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), said the governance by the Alliance for European Integration can be regarded as a process of discrediting and profaning the legal standards and European values. According to the former President of Moldova, this happens because the Council of Europe approved of the steps taken by the governing alliance, Info-Prim Neo reports. Vladimir Voronin said that during a year, the Alliance has adopted no law aimed at adjusting Moldova's legislation to the European standards. The new coalition proposed numerous legislative initiatives in the areas that helped them keep power. According to the Communist leader, the ruling alliance repeatedly refused to achieve a compromise and consensus in Parliament so as to amend the Constitution. The Election Code was modified before the plebiscite and the referendum threshold was reduced from 60% to 1/3. “It means that in some cases the political aims can be above the democratic values. The reputation of the Council of Europe as an impartial arbitrator was sacrificed to the political sympathies,” Vladimir Voronin said. The autumn session of the PACE is taking place in Strasbourg between October 4 and 8. The delegation of the Moldovan Parliament is headed by MP Ana Gutu.
