The leader of the Party of Communists (PCRM) Vladimir Voronin said that by signing the document to found the Parliamentary Assembly Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine, Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu abused his authority. In a news conference on June 13, the Communist leader stated the PCRM’s position on a number of recent events, IPN reports.

Vladimir Voronin considers Andrian Candu discredited the Republic of Moldova at international level. According to the politician, a similar body existed in the 1990s, when he was President of the Republic of Moldova. The country withdrew from this because the body stopped pursuing the set goals and acted against the Russian Federation. The objectives announced now, such as border security and cooperation with NATO, are nothing else but measures against Russia.

As to the Constitutional Court’s judgment by which the law on the functioning of languages on Moldova’s territory adopted in 1989 was declared obsolete, Vladimir Voronin said this is absurd and pursues political goals.

In another development, the Communist leader said the book dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution was published. This depicts the events staged by the PCRM in 2017, when the centenary was celebrated. “For us, the Communists, this was an important anniversary. We are a party with a historical tradition built by numerous generations of revolutionaries,” stated the Communist leader.

Also, Vladimir Voronin rejected the accusations made by former mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca, who said that Voronin privatized the Gaudeamus Cinema. He said he is determined to sue the ex-mayor for false statements.

The leader of the PCRM Vladimir Voronin described as illegal the Chisinau Court’s verdict by which he was obliged to pay 30,000 lei in respect of non-pecuniary damage and to deny publicly the statements made in April 2007 on a TV channel concerning the leader of the National Liberal Party Vitalia Pavlichenko. The clatter sued him for slander. The Communist leader said he enjoyed immunity at that time and could not be held accountable.
