Vladimir Voronin and Marian Lupu most trusted by population, poll

Moldova’s President and the leader of the Communists Party (PCRM) Vladimir Voronin and the president of the Democratic Party (PDM) Marian Lupu are trusted by 38% of the people. Prime Minister Zinaida Greceanii comes next with 34%. Mayor General of Chisinau and vice president of the Liberal Party Dorin Chirtoaca earned the trust of 28% of the population, while the PLDM leader Vlad Filat – of 23%, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the Public Opinion Barometer.
When asked to choose by themselves the politician they trust the most, 18% of the respondents picked Vladimir Voronin, 11% - Marian Lupu, 10% - Dorin Chirtoaca, 5% - Zinaida Greceanii, while 4% - Vlad Filat. 25% of the respondents said they trust no one.
About 60% of those surveyed consider that Moldova is not governed according to the people’s will, as against 59% in March 2009. Such an opinion was mainly expressed by townspeople and persons with an average and high socioeconomic and education level.
The state institutions do not enjoy much trust. The political parties are trusted by 19.6% of those questioned, the trade unions – by 20%, the judiciary – by 27.8%. Yet, the mass media earned the trust of 45.3% of the respondents, the church – of 36.2%, while the army – of 39.2%.
The PCRM is trusted by 40% of those polled, the PDM – by 25.4%, the PL – by 24.8%, the PLDM – by 22%, while the AMN – by 16%.
Arcadie Barbarosie, director of the Public Policy Institute, which commissioned the poll, said that the people trust the leaders rather than the parties. He exemplified that the population’s trust in the PDM increased after the former speaker Marian Lupu had joined the party.
The Public Opinion Barometer was conducted between June 26 and July 10 on a sample of 1,534 persons older than 18 from 115 settlements, except the Transnistrian region. The margin of sampling error is 2.5%. The poll was carried out by the Centre for Sociological Investigations and Market Studies CBS-AXA.
