Vladimir Turcanu, candidate of the National Unity Party for the position of general mayor of Chisinau, says that he can bring back Chisinau not only its beauty, but also its history. According to the candidate, the local administration must have a vision to protect the cultural heritage, restore it, exploit and use it. Once this heritage has been restored and organized, it can be used to attract tourists, IPN reports.
"We should work to make people understand that this city is more than the Triumphal Arche, which appears in all the photographs," Vladimir Turcanu said. According to the candidate, at the first stage there must be conducted an analysis of everything we have: what buildings, where they are, what are their architectural styles, what is the degree of their dilapidation, etc. The second stage concerns the restoration and capitalization on the heritage. For the restoration one could rely on the experience of Romanian cities, which have managed to preserve and renovate their old centres and cultural and architectural vestiges. Likewise, one can apply for grants, financing and loans, which must be invested under a major program of Chisinau restoration, mentions Vladimir Turcanu.
In the candidate's opinion, if the factories and market places from the Soviet period can be restored, they may be transformed, as it has been done in many cities, where the buildings were handed over to designers, artists, sculptors, who made real "works of art" out of them. "As for the buildings without any prospects - we can sell them to investors who can demolish and build other constructions, which they can use, but all this should be done according to accurate architectural plans - another thing that is missing in Chisinau," maintains the candidate.
Vladimir Turcanu also says that city-break is an increasingly popular practice and Chisinau could be included in the circuit of European cities to be visited.
