The law, the Constitution and the oath taken will be strictly observed in the activity of the new judges of the Constitutional Court. The statement was made by Vladimir Turcan, the new institution’s Chairman, during a press briefing after the CC special meeting, at which the governing bodies were elected, IPN reports.

According to Vladimir Turcan, the new judges have given assurances that they would exercise their duties honestly and consciously. "When you are in the state service, you must forget about any political preference," the CC Chairman said.

Asked about how he became CC judge, since he did not participate in the contest, Vladimir Turcan stated that the law did not envisage a contest. "In some institutions there was organized a contest, and in others after all there was not. I believe that the concept of contest does not matter in this case. What matters in the end is who was appointed and how these duties will be exercised. Our task is to restore confidence through the decisions that will be made”, declared the CC judge.

When asked how the institution's depoliticization would be ensured, given that he was appointed based on political criteria, Vladimir Turcan said that "the law on the Constitutional Court states that, at the time of appointment, if the person is a party member, it is mandatory, after taking the oath, that he/she submit a request for suspension from the party bodies”.

"The integrity of the Constitutional Court depends very much on the independence of this court. We are going to adopt the decisions that will be in strict accordance with the requirements of the Constitution”, said the Chairman of the Constitutional Court.

Vladimir Turcan announced that there were two candidates for the position of CC Chairman, him and judge Liuba Șova, but the majority voted for him. Liuba Șova will act as caretaker when he is absent.
