Shifting to the opposition is the most suitable position for the PLDM and the chance to revitalize the party, but the Europeans could not accept this, Vladimir Socor, political analyst of the Jamestown Foundation and Eurasia Daily Monitor, said in the program “Interpol” on TV 7 channel, IPN reports.
“The PLDM needs to move to the opposition to remain a pro-European party and not to yield up to the pro-Russian parties. This is their only chance to revitalize the parry that was intentionally destroyed and to make the state institutions return to the normal path and implement the law,” stated the analyst.
According to Socor, there are almost no chances for a pro-European government coalition to be formed in Chisinau. “A pro-European coalition can be formed only with the participation of the PLDM. In the Republic of Moldova, both the political parties and society are divided according to the geopolitical criterion, into pro-Europeans and pro-Russians. But the political division of the state institutions is the most serious thing. Moldova became a captive state and it cannot be freed by elections. Powerful international pressure is needed to free Moldova from captivity,” stated the analyst.
Vladimir Socor noted that the European officials bear a part of the blame for the situation in Moldova. “The oligarchic regime used pro-European slogans in personal interests. The people lost confidence in the Europeans. These knew what’s going on in Chisinau, but kept silent. There is yet an excuse – the ratification of the Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU by all the EU member states. Now Moldova faces the most serious situation in its history. I think the European officials will exert pressure on the PLDM so that it took part in the formation of a government coalition as a government formed without the PLDM will not be a pro-European one,” stated Socor.
