By organizing elections on the territory that is not controlled by the authorities of the Republic of Moldova, which expressed their disagreement, the Russians would like to say that Transnistria is a part of Russia, a kind of Kaliningrad that is not officially declared, but is treated as such, Vladimir Socor, a senior fellow of Jamestown Foundation, stated in an interview for RFE/RL’s Moldovan Service, IPN reports.

As the sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova was crassly defied, Chisinau reacted by a comment of the press office. This is the lowest level at which a Ministry of Fairing Affairs can make a reaction or state an attitude. This cooperation of Russia with the unrecognized, illegal authorities from the left side of the Nistru should have been underlined so that Russia in the future is obliged to take these reasons into account, said the analyst.

Vladimir Socor noted that the reaction of Chisinau does not challenge the validity of the results of the elections on the left side of the Nistru. He is also bewildered at the fact that Chisinau uses the term “Transnistrian region”. This region never existed legally, constitutionally or politically. This is just a geographical area.

Asked if the President will refer to the uncontrolled districts from the left side of the Nistru during her speech at the UN (as all the governments asked for the withdrawal of the Russian army from the Republic of Moldova’s territory from that rostrum), Vladimir Socor said: ‘I think Missis Sandu will repeat this request... The current government will probably have to adopt a clearer attitude as to the replacement of the so-called Russian peacekeeping troops with a nonmilitary international mission. It is not enough to formulate this request abstractly, in a short sentence or paragraph, without relevant approaches to different governments and other international organizations, only once a year at the United Nations General Assembly.”

The interlocutors noted that the neutral-design license plates intended for motor vehicles from the Transnistrian region remains the main subject discussed by Chisinau and Tiraspol.
