The head of Centru district Vladimir Sarban, former secretary of the Chisinau Council, was acquitted by the Centru District Court on March 1, after 1,914 days of prosecution and 213 hearings on the two legal cases opened against him, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The Centru District Court exculpated Sarban at the request of prosecutor Marcel Tumuruc, saying the evidence did not prove his guilt.
“I said on the very first day I was not guilty. It is five years since then. I was exonerated, but I have feelings of bitterness and dissatisfaction. I asked and continue to ask who will restore my health, dignity and honor that were damaged by the loyal servants of the Communist regime,” Vladimir Sarban stated for Info-Prim Neo.
He said he has not yet decided whether to hold those to blame for his physical and mental pain accountable. “I will make a decision after I come into possession of the document showing that I'm innocent. I'm now a little confused. I have waited for this sentence for too long. I think no person will be able to rejoice after spending 333 days and nights in the remand center of the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime and other similar centers,” Sarban said.
The court also passed an interlocutory judgment for the Prosecutor General's Office on the violations committed when arresting and holding Vladimir Sarban and his colleagues from the City Hall in prison.
Vladimir Sarban was accused of abuse of power when purchasing 40 ambulances for the Emergency Hospital and of illegally issuing a construction authorization to a Chisinau company.
