Russia was close to do this when the President of the Republic of Moldova was Vladimir Voronin. But the process could not be completed owing to pressure exerted by the West on the then President.
The Kremlin leader also said that the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict has been postponed endlessly. This dispute should be yet resolved sooner or later.
In connection with the aforementioned, the official reminded that the President-elect of Moldova Maia Sandu holds also Romanian nationality.
