The former Socialist MP Vladimir Golovatiuc, who was recently named Moldova’s Ambassador to Russia, is the parliamentary majority’s candidate for Prime Minister, the PSRM announced in a press release that is quoted by IPN.
The party noted the statement on the formation of the parliamentary majority was signed by 53 MPs. These are the Socialist MPs and the members of the For Moldova Platform that includes the MPs of the Shor Party.
President Maia Sandu was invited to consultations with the parliamentary majority at 12 noon, either in the Presidential Palace or in the Parliament Building, as the President will decide, the leader of the Socialist parliamentary group Corneliu Furculiță stated in the legislature’s sitting.
Contacted by IPN for a comment, the spokesman for the presidential administration Sorina Ștefârță hasn’t yet offered a reaction as to the made invitation.
After the negotiations held with the parliamentary groups on March 16, President Maia Sandu said that she took note of Mariana Durleșteanu’s decision to withdraw her candidacy for premiership and, as there is no candidate supported by a formalized parliamentary majority, she decided to propose PAS president Igor Grosu for Prime Minister. On March 17, the Party of Socialists challenged the presidential decree in the Constitutional Court.
