Vladimir Filat quits Democratic Party to form his own

Vladimir Filat, vice president of the Democratic Party’s parliamentary group and member of the Political Executive Council of the party, announced his decision to quit the old party and form a new one, of liberal orientation, the Democratic Party announced in a press release. According to it, most of the members of the Political Executive Council were surprised by the decision of Mr. Filat and reckoned it to be illogical and unreasoned, as he has always enjoyed the support of the party and the opportunity to freely express his ideas. The party regrets that Filat, maybe involuntarily, has become a tool in the hands of some political opponents, first of all of the communists, who have the goal to shake the stability of the party. The Political Executive Council advised the Democrat parliamentary group to examine as soon as possible the opportunity of Filat’s membership in the group. However, he earlier told reporters about his plans to hold a press conference next week. The media in Chisinau has been writing about Filat’s potential withdrawal from DP and the intention to found a party of his own since the local election of June 3. According to some sources, Filat had arguments with the leadership of the party during the election campaign that featured him as candidate for Chisinau mayor. Vladimir Filat was born on May 6, 1969 in Lapusna village, Hancesti district. In 1994, he graduated from the University “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” in Iasi. He started the political activity as member of the Democratic Party. At 29, he became State Minister of Moldova in the Sturza Government. Since March 2005, he has been member of the Moldovan Parliament.
