Vladimir Filat says he leaves the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) because he doesn’t agree anymore with the way the decisions are made in this party. At a press conference today, Filat stated that it hasn’t been an easy decision, yet the divergences on how a party in Moldova should be managed finally prevailed. “A party must take into account the proposals of all its members and move towards accomplishing them, and not to limit itself to criticizing other parties”, MP Filat said. Vladimir Filat, PDM’s ex-candidate for Chisinau mayor, said he decided to quit the party immediately after this summer’s local elections, which, according to him, marked the start of some irrational internal conflicts, including personal attacks, which ruined any hope for a constructive dialogue, especially with the party leader, Dumitru Diacov. According to Filat, there have been talks of reorganisation in the Democratic Party since 2001, but it has been constantly delayed by major political events and also by the withdrawal of Ion Sturza from the party. Vladimir Filat announced his intention to get involved in a centre-right political project, to be launched in the near future, and which will adopt the popular option, based on the values of the liberal democracy. “To give Moldova the chance to be dominated, in a predictable future, by social-democrat doctrines, there must be implemented reforms of liberal nature, which will spur the country’s economic growth”, Filat explained his option. The cited source pointed out that he is not the only one who decided to leave PDM and join the new party, but didn’t give out names. The deputy also refrained from naming the initiators of the new party, but dismissed the rumours that the project involves Speaker Marian Lupu or presidential advisor Marc Tcaciuk. Vladimir Filat was PDM member for more than 10 years. When he announced he was leaving the party, some of his former colleagues accused him of becoming, maybe against his will, a tool in the hands of certain parties that are interested in destabilising the situation in PDM.
