The vice president of the Democratic Party Vladimir Cebotari said the stolen US$ 1 billion is on the way to the Republic of Moldova. According to him, over 10% of the stolen funds have been recovered. The politician developed the issue in the talk show “In Depth” on ProTV Chisinau channel, IPN reports.

Vladimir Cebotari said 90% of the persons involved in the fraud were identified and criminal cases were started over about 90% of the embezzled amounts. Furthermore, a part of the money was identified in particular jurisdictions.  The Republic of Moldova haven’t received an answer from a part of these jurisdictions. “We now see that enormous sums of money returned, including to the Moldovan political class. There were financed different parties and nongovernmental organizations. There are many conclusive proofs,” stated the Democratic heavyweight.

According to him, 1.2 billion lei of the stolen funds have been recovered until now by having nonperforming loans repaired and by selling assets and pledges. Furthermore, there was sold the shareholding of one of the players involved in the scheme and 450 million lei is to enter the accounts of the National Bank of Moldova.

Director of the Institute for Development and Social Initiative “Viitorul” Igor Munteanu said the recovery of the stolen funds is a big problem. No money of the stolen funds has been recovered. The person who is mentioned in the Kroll report for 74 times, Ilan Shor, is under the apparent protection of the Democratic Party. He opened 100 social stores and travels abroad even if he was banned from leaving the country. “This clearly points to the impunity of persons and to selective justice,” stated Igor Munteanu.
