Vladimir Beșleagă turns 90

Renowned writer, translator, essayist and journalist Vladimir Beșleagă celebrated his 90th birthday. On this occasion, friends, colleagues and relatives wished the master a long and healthy life through Facebook, IPN reports.

A Citizen of Honor of Chisinau, the master was also congratulated by the Chisinau City Hall. “Yesterday, I and representatives of the Culture Division congratulated him on the nice age of 90 years. We wished him many happy returns,” Mayor of Chisinau Ion Ceban announced today.

Vladimir Beșleagă was born in Mălăiești, village of Grigoriopol district on July 25, 1931. His works were translated into a number of languages. His first novel “Damaged Flying” is considered one of the most remarkable works of the postwar period. He was a member of the first Parliament of Moldova (1990-1994). In 1991, he was awarded the honorific title of People’s Writer, while in 1996 he was conferred the Order of the Republic, which he yet returned. Manuscripts of a number of his novels are kept as part of the collection of the Romanian Literature Museum “Mihail Kogălniceanu”.
