The former president of the Romanian People’s Party Vlad Țurcanu will be proposed for the post of first vice president of the National Unity Party (PUN). PUN leader Octavian Ţîcu told a news conference that the National Council of the PUN will be soon convened to discuss this proposal, IPN reports.
Octavian Ţîcu voiced hope that this cooperation, which he considers normal between people with a similar ideal, will give birth to a new generation of the reunification. “We are at a historical moment when we need to unite the personalities and politicians who feel and think like Romanians and Europeans. This first step will definitely lead to consolidation and to the achievement of the Moldovan citizens’ hope about the PUN,” stated Octavian Ţîcu.
The National Unity Party gets ready for new parliamentary elections in Hâncești constituency and for next autumn’s presidential election. The party aims to co-opt emblematic, upright personalities who showed incontestable personal merits in support of the Romanian and European cause in different circumstances. “If the national conscience is not awakened, we will be unable to achieve this desideratum,” said the politician.
For his part, Vlad Țurcanu said that before an electoral year, the decisions that should be taken are not easy, but are very important for what will happen in 2020. He decided to join Octavian Ţîcu and the National Unity Party so that they together consolidate the Romanian pole, give a powerful reply to the Party of Socialists and then gather together all those who think and see their future in this territory, in a modern, European and Romanian formula.
Earlier this week, Vlad Țurcanu announced his intention to leave the party because of the differences in the views as to how the Romanian political pole should be unified in Moldova.
