Vlad Turcanu, former spokesman for President Nicolae Timofti, considers the head of state was persuaded to swear in the Filip Cabinet in the evening of January 20 as, several hours earlier, it was agreed that the swearing in ceremony will be held on January 20. Turcanu developed the issue in the program “Interpol” on TV7 channel, IPN reports.

“I don’t know what happened. They came home after me at about 10pm and, while going to the State Residence, I found out that the Cabinet was to be sworn in that evening. I couldn’t even take part as I was dressed inappropriately. Maybe I’m a little old-fashioned, but I consider the people should be informed correctly,” stated Turcanu.

The former spokesman said the head of state has doubts about the correct formation of the parliamentary alliance, but he had to comply because he didn’t have evidence of political corruption. “Over the last few months, the President had a firmer position, but ultimately had to accept the parliamentary coalition,” he stated.

Asked if the head of state was persuaded by someone from outside the country to nominate Pavel Filip for Prime Minister, Vlad Turcanu said he does not know this, but knows that Nicolae Timofti during the last few days had a number of discussions with foreign diplomats. As to the nomination of Ion Paduraru as a candidate for premiership, he noted that this was a personal decision of the President. “During almost eight hours, President Nicolae Timofti had discussed two candidates - Ion Sturza and Ion Paduraru. I don’t know why the head of state chose Paduraru. We were glad as he was our colleague. I wasn’t very happy when Ion Paduraru withdrew his candidacy in favor of Pavel Filip. I don’t know why he did it. We didn’t discuss. I know that Paduraru is not a very sentimental person,” stated the ex-spokesman.

Vlad Turcanu tendered his resignation on January 21 after a day earlier he informed the press that the ceremony to swear in the Cabinet will take place the next day.
