What Igor Dodon, the PSRM and the Bloc ACUM did on June 8 is a coup. These deliberately violated the Constitution and the Constitutional Court’s judgments, the president of the Democratic Party Vlad Plahotniuc stated in a press briefing in the evening of June 8, IPN reports.

“Igor Dodon and the PSRM do not have legitimacy to take part in the formation of a constitutional majority and the Government since there are multiple proofs that they were financed from outside the country in the election campaign and outside it,” stated the Democratic leader, noting that what happened in Parliament is only a desperate attempt of the de facto leader of the PSRM to take over by force the power in Moldova, in his interests or in the interests of those who are behind him.

Vlad Plahotniuc stated the Democratic Party does not recognize the legality of what happened in Parliament – starting with the convocation of Parliament and ending with the votes held today. The PDM will take all the legal and democratic steps to prevent the plan to illegally take over the state institutions so that Moldova does not experience a bigger crisis than the one caused by the PSRM and ACUM. During the next few days, he will present additional data concerning the lack of legitimacy of the votes and other evidence that would show how the PSRM orchestrated the attempted coup.

The Democratic leader noted the PDM will continue to insist on holding snap parliamentary elections simultaneously with the parliamentary elections and that these be organized with parties’ money. “The power now belongs to no party. We have an interim government and a nonfunctional Parliament,” stated the politician.

Speaking about the negotiations with Igor Dodon, Vlad Plahotniuc confirmed they discussed and during three months had many meetings and tried to find the formula of a technical partnership between the PDM and the PSRM. They mainly reached consensus, but the discussions reached deadlock as different new conditions appeared, especially as regards geopolitics, and the PDM could not accept these.
