Vlad Plahontiuc could have reached agreements with decision makers from the Kremlin so as to disrupt Moldova’s European course as this does not like that the country is coming closer to the EU, political commentator Ion Tăbârță said after fugitive oligarch Vlad Plahotniuc announced that he returns to Moldovan politics. Representatives of the government are sure that the sanctions imposed by the U.S. on the former leader of the Democratic Party are a very clear political message concerning the gravity of the illegalities committed by Plahotniuc, IPN reports.

On Thursday, the former leader of the PDM Vlad Plahotniuc in an interview with a Moldovan portal said that he intends to return to politics as he wants to complete particular projects he started when the PDM was in power and to save the country from the crisis.

“We believed that Plahotniuc will appear with the prompter in his hiding place in Northern Cyprus as everyone knows where he is. It was a sophisticated text that definitely wasn’t written by Plahotniuc but I would like to see him live. Those who robbed seek refuge in politics and stick to the democratic values so as to protect themselves from the justice system. He said he wants to be a kind of savior of the country. Two days ago, Shor also said that he wanted to save us. By becoming involved in politics they want to get rid of justice. This is the logic of the fugitive criminals. But when someone publishes something on a portal this does not yet mean that he really returns,” political commentator Ilian Cașu stated in the program “Ghețu Asks” on TV8 channel.

Political commentator Ion Tăbârță said Vlad Plahotniuc could have made a pact with Russia to discredit the ruling party PAS in a move to hamper Moldova’s path to the EU.

“Knowing the character of Vlad Plahotniuc, I consider he surely influenced or tried to influence the state of affairs in the Republic of Moldova in the period. He is bothered by the current government’s attempts to change things and by the rapprochement with the European Union and he could have reached informal agreements with decision makers form the Kremlin. It’s clear that the Shor Party coordinates its actions with decision makers from Russia. The puzzle with regard to the Republic of Moldova is much larger and each of them plays a particular role. Vlad Plahotniuc transmits messages to the persons who are nostalgic for the period when he governed the country. He wants to mobilize political forces against the current ruling party,” said Ion Tăbârță.

“What remained after the previous governments is a heavy burden for our country and this burden now expands amid the crises we experience – the energy crisis, the war. Respectively, any specimen from the past is a challenge for the government too. We expect all those who broke the law to appear before judges. The sanctions imposed by the U.S. are a very clear message. If we look at the previous sanctions against persons who were put on that list, we see that the consequences were serious. Their accounts are blocked and this is a signal for the justice system in any country as the U.S. does not make such statements for the sake of statements or for supporting a government,” said PAS MP Vitalii Gavrouc.

In the interview, Vlad Plahotniuc said that the period of indulgence offered to the anti-Plahotniuc governments is over and time has come for him to form a new political team, to return to power and to show how a country should be managed in times of crisis.
