Vlad Plahotniuc vacated the post of president of the Democratic Party (PDM). He wrote on Facebook that he suggested his party mates to organize the PDM’s congress as soon as possible so as to choose a new leadership and to approve a new political program. Vlad Plahotniuc also wrote that he will not run for any post in the party at this congress, IPN reports.

Vlad Plahotniuc said he wants this way to show that the Democratic Party is not dependent on one person. “I took this decision also because the Democratic Party needs a new political project in the opposition, which would be adjusted to the new realities by a new administrative team,” he wrote.

The politician said he does not yet renounce the seat of MP. “I do not want this seat for immunity or something else. It is a mandate given by the people and any related decision will be taken by me together with them. It is the mandate that belongs to the people from Nisporeni, not to me or to someone else,” wrote Vlad Plahotniuc.

He noted the PDM is now kept under huge pressure because someone aims at the incorrect target and wants to struggle with him, but struggles with the party. “Those who want to take political revenge should take it on me. I fully assume the role of target for any kinds of abuses, but they should not take revenge on my party mates and mates from the party’s parliamentary group who, even if they are not in power, play a very important role in keeping stability, independence and the country’s Euro-Atlantic development course,” he wrote.

Vlad Plahotniuc was elected president of the PDM at the end of 2016.
