The founder of Edelweiss Vlad Plahotniuc and Romania’s Ambassador to Moldova Marius Lazurca on June 10 inaugurated the main entrance of the Maternity of the Mother and Child Institute of Chisinau. This was renovated within the modernization works carried out at the Mother and Child Institute during the last two years, since the launch of the social campaign “Revive Moldova” by Edelweiss, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the Foundation.

Accompanied by the administration of the Mother and Child Institute, Vlad Plahotniuc and Marius Lazurca visited the modernized stories, the halls outfitted with modern medical equipment and got acquainted with the medical personnel.

“The modernization of the Mother and Child Maternity is an ambitious project designed to show how an institution of European level should look in our country and how we want to change Moldova. If we were successful in this project, we will be successful in other projects too,” said Vlad Plahotniuc. He spoke about the conditions from which the mothers and children now benefit at the modernized maternity, noting that the situation now is much more different than when the first child was born there.

The founder of Edelweiss thanked all those who contributed to the success of this campaign to modernize the Mother and Child Institute, especially the representatives of Romania, who made a consistent contribution at the fundraising stage carried out in 2014.

For his part, Ambassador Marius Lazurca said he feels glad and thrilled at this event. “I’m glad because we see the positive effects of our joint effort, of the Edelweiss Foundation and of the Government of Romania. The campaign started as the effort of one person who was joined by thousands of people, some well-off, while others not so wealthy. It is a happy example that must continue. The good does not have political color,” he stated.

According to the press release, the campaign “Revive Moldova” implied unprecedented mobilization for collecting in 2014 the sum needed for starting repair works at the Mother and Child Maternity. A sum of €1 million was raised within a number of charity events staged by Edelweiss. The first donation was made by Edelweiss within a charity concert in April 2014. In six months, within a national telemarathon, Vlad Plahotniuc donated the sum needed for achieving the objective of €1 million.

More than 5,000 children are annually born at the Mother and Child Maternity. Also, over 40,000 patients benefit from the medical services of this health facility.
